Subject: Another Jerry Warren Patch Up Job
AKA House of Black Death. Jerry Warren, the director of Wild World of Batwoman, Frankenstein Island, Teenage Zombies, Man Beast, Petrified World, Terror of the Bloodhunters took up the spare footage of this incomplete movie, filmed some exposition scenes with his usual actors Katherine Victor and George Mitchell and this is what you get. Sheer boredom.

Separate the Warren scenes from the original footage shot by Harold Daniels. They don't match up well. The first 10 minutes with the static shot of Victor and Daniels boringly setting up the tale is the most obvious Warren scene.

Warren did this alot. He would acquire the rights of films either short or incomplete, throw in some scenes by him and release it for money.

Well, it's better than Manos: The Hands of Fate. John Carradine and Lon Chaney got paychecks. There's a story of sorts, and a plot, both threadbare. It starts with Satan stating the fate of the main characters in mumbling alliteration. After that, things are and things happen. At least the actors say so. The camera doesn't tell the story. The movie lurches from scene to scene like an old jalopy in need of engine work. After 74 minutes of this, the plot resolves in a predictable fizzle.

It's a horror movie, I guess. Many characters are overt satanists. There are satanic rituals, which alway include a young woman dancing in a skimpy costume. The actors say there are demons and werewolves, too. Many scenes are filmed in the dark for atmosphere. I think some special effects were supposed to be added in the final scenes, but never were.

Bah! This movie had the most confused, inexplicable screenplay I've encountered since I saw The Castle of Fu Manchu. The directing and editing seemed amateurish, but the three directors collectively had 109 movies under their belts before making this, and the editor, one of the directors, had edited 5 before. By contrast, the makers of The Ghosts of Hanley House was made on a shoestring by amateurs who demonstrated some basic competence and a desire to do things right, and made an entertaining film.

I downloaded the 691MB DivX file. Video and audio quality were fine.
